Canada Work Permit

Foreign worker’s family can apply for work permit in Canada

Canada has declared that it will prolong the validity of Canada work permit for temporary foreign workers’ wives and common-law partners. During the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the extension is meant to offer stability and support to families of foreign employees. The extension, which will last for 18 months, is applicable to work permits for Canada that were due to expire between January 30, 2020, and October 31, 2020. The administration has also said that it will prolong the validity of open work permits for Indian wives and common-law partners.

On a work permit, you are permitted to bring your family to Canada. Depending on the type of work permit you have, your spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children may be qualified to apply for an open work permit or study permit. If they don’t want to work or study, they can also apply for a visiting visa. It’s crucial to remember that they will need to fulfil the standards and get through the typical immigration inspections.

Beginning the next year, the Canadian government will grant Canada work permit Visas to the relatives of temporary foreign workers. Both experts from India and other foreigners will gain from this endeavour. Canada will phase in the expansion of wives and children of working age who are eligible to work there for all skill levels through a temporary 2-year measure. This would include, for instance, the families of employees in the hospitality, trades, and healthcare sectors.

Work Permit Eligibility

An applicant must meet certain requirements linked to their credentials, work experience, and other variables in order to be eligible for a work permit in Canada. They must also have a legal job offer from a Canadian business. Additionally, they might need to pass specific medical, security, and background check standards. This new strategy is expected to increase options for both foreign workers looking for work in Canada for Indians and employers filling their labour needs by allowing family members of more than 200,000 foreign workers to begin working there.

The temporary measure will be implemented in 3 phases to ensure its successful implementation:

Phase 1

It will make it possible for family members of workers entering Canada under the International Mobility Program or the High-Wage Stream to apply for an open work visa for Indian in Canada.

Phase 2

Following talks, it plans to extend the measure to relatives of employees from the Temporary Foreign Worker Program’s low-wage stream.

Phase 3

To determine if expanding the measure to cover family members of agricultural employees is operationally feasible, it will involve dialogue with agricultural partners and stakeholders.

According to Sean Fraser, “Our government will continue assisting employers in overcoming labour shortages, while also promoting the welfare of workers and bringing their families together.”
