The extension, which will last for 18 months, is applicable to work permits for Canada that were due to expire between January 30, 2020, and October 31, 2020. The administration has also said that it will prolong the validity of open work permits for Indian wives and common-law partners.

Phase 2
Following talks, it plans to extend the measure to relatives of employees from the Temporary Foreign Worker Program’s low-wage stream.
Phase 3
To determine if expanding the measure to cover family members of agricultural employees is operationally feasible, it will involve dialogue with agricultural partners and stakeholders.
