What you need to be a qualified and registered nurse in the UK?
- Nursing degree or diploma
- 1 Year of nursing experience
- Registered Nurse License
English language ability
You must undertake either IELTS or OET test to demonstrate your English language skills:
- Academic IELTS with 6.5 in writing and 7 in others
- OET with C+ in writing and B in areas
Once you have cleared the IELTS or OET exam, it’s time to undergo an online self-assessment to determine whether you meet the basic eligibility conditions of the NMC registration and the UK visa requirements for nurses. The process requires you to confirm that you meet health, character, and language requirements of the UK nurse visa.
Pass Computer Based Test (CBT)
All trained nurses in the UK must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). Registration process involves a Computer Based Test (CBT), which can be taken in multiple test centres worldwide. The test comprises 120 multiple-choice questions.
In this process, you will be required to submit various documents to the NMC. These documents will help the authorities evaluate your eligibility to work as a nurse in the UK. Once you submit all the necessary documents to the NMC, one of them members of the International Registrations Team will assess your application for the UK jobs visa.

Certificate of Sponsorship (COS)
The UK visa requirements for nurses require them to secure a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) before applying for a work permit. The NHS will sponsor your application and applies for the sponsorship on your behalf. A Certificate of Sponsorship is valid for three years, after which you can apply for a new sponsored role.
Submit a visa application
After getting a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS), the next step is to apply for a nursing visa UK from India. You will need to apply for a Tier 2 Visa, which is a skilled worker visa that allows foreigners to live and work in the UK.
Pass the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE)
This test aims to assess your clinical skills in a safe environment where some individuals will monitor you. The exam tests your skills based on six factors, using simulated patients in a clinical setting. Out of six, four test your knowledge of assessment and evaluation of care, and the remaining two test your clinical skills.
Complete NMC Registration Process
Submit health, character and language evidence. NMC will assess the application within 35 days. After this, receive Registration Number from NMC (PIN).
